Special recognition
On occasion, individuals perform extraordinary acts of service in unique situations. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is proud to honor these deserving recipients.
2023 Recipient | Lt. James Egan
Lt. James Eagen has been an integral part of our event’s safety and security plans. Many of you will recognize him from his presentations at our event production meetings. His work behind the scenes has allowed us to produce safe events for many years and we are honored to have been able to work with him.
2019 Recipient | Dr. Philip Skiba
Throughout the year we stress the importance of hands-only CPR and first aid techniques that can help to save a life. On Friday of race week, a guest of the event experienced a cardiac event. Members of our team, Mia Narcisi and Michelle Raytman, acted quickly to identify medical professionals at the event, locate the closest AED and call 9-1-1.
Dr. Philip Skiba, a board-certified expert in primary care sports medicine in elite athletic performance for Advocate Health Care, was the first physician to respond and was quickly joined by Bank of America Chicago Marathon medical director, Dr. George Chiampas. Both doctors worked together to administer CPR and AED services to revive the unresponsive guest. The quick response of the Dr. Skiba played a critical role in the ensuring the wellbeing of the guest and we are pleased to say that the individual was released from the hospital after a short stay.
