Sustainable Impact Award
Introduced in 2023, the Sustainable Impact Award is presented annually to a volunteer or group of volunteers who have demonstrated a significant commitment to sustainability by making outstanding contributions to the Chicago Distance Series sustainability programs and initiatives.
This award recognizes individuals and teams who go above and beyond to make our events more sustainable. They may do this by developing and implementing new sustainability initiatives, reducing our environmental impact, or educating others about the importance of sustainability. Their hard work and dedication to making a positive impact on the environment at our events is essential to the success of our sustainability program.
2023 Recipient | Kristen Turgeon
We’re excited to announce Kristen Turgeon as the first recipient of the Sustainable Impact Award. As a science teacher at Von Steuben Metropolitan Science Center, and the sponsor of the Von Steuben Environmental Club, Kristen has supported our event’s sustainability efforts since 2017. In the face of challenges, Kristen has displayed exceptional leadership by overseeing a group of 60+ student volunteers. Kristen consistently leads the largest Green Team volunteer group at our events, and her dedication to her students and the environment shines through in the enthusiastic and committed student volunteers she brings.
